How to look at public art:

If you are new to looking at public artworks you may find these suggestions helpful:

*You may like to focus on how the work was made, what materials were used, is it bronze, wood, glass or a mixture of materials? Is it rough or has it been polished?

*Think about why the artists made it, the story behind the artwork. The title may give you a clue.

*Why is it where it is? Does it improve the area it is in? How does its size relate to its surroundings?

*Does it tell you anything about the local community?

*What do you know about the artist? This website contains some information about the artists which you could take to view the artworks.

*Lastly…how does the artworks make you feel? It may make you look at the surroundings in a new way, it may
make you calm, or happy or sad. It may amuse you.

There is no right or wrong, we all bring different things to our experience of art. You don’t have to like them all, but you will have a favourite!
