Dominique Rey
UNTITLED
etched glass, metal, lights

Dominique Rey’s practice encompasses the interplay between notions of identity, site and culture within personal histories, tracing the resonance of once inhabited spaces whilst pointing to the varying ways that these may be interpreted by those who follow. She considers history a mutative process created from suppositions and subjective, edited narratives that are themselves formed from fragments and objects pieced together. Entwined within this process is the paradoxical closeness of fact and fiction, polarities that may often become interchangeable.

For PULSE Rey presents a new sculptural piece Untitled, which arises out of an investigation into place, architecture and people within history and an observation of how these elements can come together in a transient way. Dominique uses directional light sources as an integral part of her work, often within structures of metal, sandblasted glass and found objects, drawing connections between the architectural forms from early twentieth century cinemas and family vaults or tombs of that time.

Dominique Rey has had a varied art education, undertaking undergraduate study in Visual & Performing Arts at Brighton University in 1992 and graduating from Goldsmiths with an M.A. in Art Psychotherapy in 2003. She has been involved in various activity as exhibitor and curator/ co-ordinator, as well as www.dominiquerey.co.uk / http://www.axisweb.org/artists/dominiquer
