for, but not about (part 1)

GET WITH THE PROGRAMME:
IP(switch) TV

3 October – 21 November

Launch: Saturday 3 October, 2.30pm – 4.00, introductory talk by Harold Offeh
Wrap Event:
Saturday 21 November, closing celebration

GET WITH THE PROGRAMME - IP(switch) TV kick starts for, but not about, a long term, youth focussed, research- led project that seeks to establish terms for engagement from which to develop working relations with young and emerging visual artists and local communities.

Working with artist Harold Offeh the gallery will be transformed into a temporary DIY television studio. The diverse community of young people in Ipswich are invited to GET WITH THE PROGRAMME and utilise the interactive space for the pre-production, production, and airing of accumulated content and material; a process that will in turn engage mutual forum for idea and skill sharing from which to initiate new work.

Harold Offeh opens the project with a lively introductory performance, looking at approaches to TV in artistic practice, and showing clips from television shows and his own work. The exhibition’s display will grow from a programme of durational work, artist-led participatory activity and events - drawing, sculpture, fashion, film, dance, drama performance - providing young people with practical opportunity to produce and contribute content and material while exploring spectacle, stereotypes, clichés as well as pertinent issues. Further event proposals are invited from the local audience (young and old) to evolve more spontaneous programming around their interests and desires. Exploring and giving voice to ideas about community, identity, time, place and ownership through popular TV formats, media interventions and associated visual practices and processes.
