GHOST OF A CHANCE
Wolsey Art Gallery
22 January
– 17 April 2005
Ghost of a Chance was a mixed media exhibition which included photographs, paintings, sculpture, performance and videos. The exhibition featured the work of Russian artists
Olga & Alexander Florensky, Olga Egorova and Natalia Pershina-Yakimanskya, and
British artists Lei Cox, Rita Keegan and Susan Morland.
The works selected in this exhibition explored issues of identity, personal experience, belonging and survival.
Ghost of a Chance was organised by Wild Caret Arts and curated by Siumee Keelan.
She discovered that although the artists in Ghost of a Chance come from very different cultures, from St Petersburg to London, their work shared a narrative element and explored the theme of journeys. The work delved into improbable or impossible journeys, journeys into other lives, through personal experience and historical and cultural identity.
You could come try and buy clothes at the Factory of Found Clothing’s Shop of Utopian Clothing. See the wonders of teleportation. Explore others lives through self and family portraits. Discover the Russians, Olga and Alexander Florensky’s take on Ipswich. All these works combine to create an exciting, eclectic and sometimes eccentric exhibition.
